Our annual Teacher Workshop is a great chance for teachers and parents to come and learn more about different strategies for teaching and getting kids involved with music! Every year, local artists from around the community come and give presentations to share their expertise.
This year's workshop will be held at Welch Music Recital Hall, beginning at 9:00 AM. Come early for coffee and doughnuts at 8:30 AM! Admission to the workshop is $25 and includes lunch.
Dr. Renato Fabbro, Guest Artist
Our guest artist for this year's Teacher Workshop and Master Classes is Dr. Renato Fabbro! Dr. Fabbro received Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in piano performance from the University of Colorado, and as a teaching fellow he was awarded a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Rice University. He has studied with renowned pianists, received numerous awards, performed at various musical festivals and chamber music recitals, and judged many competitions. His students have also won numerous awards. Dr. Fabbro currently serves on the faculty of the University of Portland and has previously taught at Marylhurst University. If you would like to read more about Dr. Fabbro, you can do so at his website.
Dr. Fabbro's presentation for this year's Teacher Workshop is titled "Interpreting Keyboard Music from the Classical Period." In it, he will clarify and give examples of how to approach ornamentation, pedaling, rhythmic nuance and articulation in this style period.
Dr. Fabbro will also be offering Master Classes! A master class is like a piano lesson, but in a class format. Each student will perform for a “master” teacher who will give performance suggestions, and artistic and technical help to the student. Students do not need to have music memorized, and students are open to participate even if they can only perform a few pages of their piece. The class is to help the student learn more about the music they are playing. The suggestions they receive can be of benefit to all the students present in the “class.” Students should plan to listen to the other students during the approximately 60 minute class they will be scheduled in.
